Maple Syrup is 100% Natural

Real maple syrup is a completely natural food product that is creating by the boiling and concentrating of maple sap. Maple sap is a clear, sticky liquid that provides maple trees with water and nutrients prior to the tree buds and leaves opening in the springtime. In the boiling of the maple sap, concentrating it down to the syrup, and filtering processes, all the nutrients remain in the finished maple syrup. Of course there are some numerical differences in the nutritive composition of maple syrup due to variation in trees size and the difference in environmental conditions.

Sugars in Maple Syrup

Sugars are an important source of energy. Sucrose is the primary sugar in pure Maple syrup. (NOT fructose like in corn syrup) The darker grades of syrup, like Grade B maple syrup, also contain small amounts of fructose and glucose. That is, the sugar balance is somewhat more balanced. From most sweet to least sweet is fructose, then sucrose, and finally glucose.

Vitamins & Minerals

Minerals have specific and nonspecific nutritional functions in the body's metabolism. In pure filtered maple syrup the main minerals present are calcium, potassium, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, and iron.

Vitamins are essential to maintaining health and most of them cannot be manufactured by the body so they must be ingested either through food or taken separately. Pure maple syrup contains trace amounts of vitamins, including:

  • B2 (Riboflavin) - critical in the metabolism of energy including fats
  • B5 (Pantothenic Acid) - critial in the metabolism and synthesis of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats
  • B6 (Pyridoxine) - critical for cardiovascular health
  • PP (Niacin, B1) - involved in DNA repair
  • Folic Acid - essential to many bodily functions
  • Biotin - may be helpful in maintaining a stable blood sugar level and for strengthening hair and nails

Proteins

Amino Acids are the building blocks of the proteins. In pure maple syrup many amino acids are present in trace amounts.
